Thieves Market and Lunch

We set out around 10 AM for the Thieves Market, or giant yard sale. The route went up and down the many hills/steps in the city. There were also more outstanding overlooks. The weather was cool and sunny.

These photos are a very, very small peek at the probably 75+ stalls selling a wide variety of items - clothes, tools, socks, jewelry, china, tiles, etc. etc. etc.

I had read online that one should be careful buying tiles at this market as some have been chipped out of a wall or other structure and then sold. There were many bins of these types of very raw looking tiles.

Afterwards, we were beyond starving, so we set out for  the Gulbenkian Museum with an eye on having lunch in their restaurant. We've discovered over and over again that museums' restaurants are not only delicious, but usually not crowded.

The line was a little longer than usual as we arrived around 1:30, the predictable time for a Portuguese lunch.

But our meal was outstanding and worth the short wait. I had pork with vegetables and a salad, while Gates had codfish and a salad. We split the brownie for dessert. Not shown (because I gulped it down), my coffee with milk.
