Marine Mammal Interpretive Center

The interpretive center was a short walk from the hotel.

We walked through this jawbone of a blue whale (the largest whale) to enter the dinosaur hall.

The pin whale is the second largest.

All whales used in the exhibit were dead when they were found.

This humpback whale was only 13-16 months old. It was just back from migration in the southern waters.  If you look closely, you can see two small bones two thirds of the way down the spine. These are the remains of their back legs which evolved to be unnecessary.

Baleen whales use baleen to filter water to eat plankton. Whales with teeth eat small fish.

This dinosaur has teeth.
