As with the Grossmunster, the Fraumunster was bare. There are no alters or crosses. Baptism is the focus, but the pulpit is critical as that's where the word of God is spoken. The pulpit is accessed by a winding staircase. There, the minister looks down over the congregation.
Marc Chagall didn't discover stained glass until the 1970's when the windows below were designed. He said, "For me, a stained glass window represents the transparent partition between my heart and the heart of the world." The windows represent many stories/parables from the Bible.
This "rose window" above was designed when Chagall was nearly 90. It shows the story of Creation.
This silent room dates to 1100 and was accessed from the back of the church. I like Kierkegaard's words.
I had no idea that Marc Chagall designed stained glass windows!
