Bodo

Yesterday we were in Bodo (pronounced Boo-da). We had signed up for an excursion which took us around Bodo and then to the Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest current. The current depends on the tides and the time of day, so we did not see it at its strongest, but it was still evident.

Bodo was an interesting town in that it was more utilitarian and less touristy since many tourists might not stop there except enroute to the Saltstraumen. Some passengers went out onto the water in a RIB (rigid inflatable boat). We chose not to, and I was glad to be on land. Not because it was rough but it would have been quite cold, I liked experiencing the view from land. The boat would have been more of a distraction.

The autumn colors are evident, and are gorgeous. The temperature is also quite a bit colder (thank goodness - I want to use that ski parka I brought which nearly took up one suitcase!) because of the absence of the jet stream.

 A prison in town.
