Trondheim

We docked in Trondheim during breakfast, so I finished my oatmeal, eggs, fruit and coffee (took a Danish and cheese/cracker along for mid-morning snack), and we headed off the ship. They had provided an excellent map which helped tremendously.  Trondheim is a city similar to Bergen but it’s smaller and easier to navigate. First on our list was for me to find an apothecary or aptok to get some stronger hand cream as the frequent use of hand sanitizer was taking its toll. This was easy to do as we found a large “mall” of sorts with many shops including a drugstore.

Then we headed toward Nidaros Cathedral which was most impressive. Someone was playing one pipe organ (they appear to have three) as we arrived. There was also an interesting display honoring the Sami people as well as a magnificent rose window. There were nicely done interactive stations where one could learn about the history and restoration of the cathedral.

Since our time in Trondheim was limited to about 2 hours, we left to investigate Bakklandet an area very similar to Bryggen in Bergen which has the wooden houses, cobblestoned streets and cute shops. To get there, we crossed over the Gamle Brybo or Old Town Bridge which was an unusual structure.

There is a large train station in Trondheim, and it is a city I would like to return to as there are 5 or more interesting museums including one about textiles.
