Chania views, knife shop, harbor, bougatsa and RAIN

Chania also has many ancient buildings, some showing the ornate Venetian influence.

You can see the more ornate Venetian elements in the balconies.

Many, many buildings throughout Greece have solar hot water cylinders on their rooftops.

For lunch, we went to a restaurant which allowed us to view the different choices. I chose BBQ chicken and sauteed baby okra - especially good.

Next we went to a knife shop. Knives are very popular as gifts in Chania, maybe throughout Greece. There are different knives for fighting and for food.

Polia explained that the tip of the knife has a signature of the maker (if there isn't one, it's from a factory) and the city where it was made.

                                                    Part of the workshop.

The weather was very windy and it teemed during lunch. (Some guests had to put up umbrellas.) This was a brief moment of respite from the rain.

Next, we visited a very old synagogue.
Here is the mikveh with an explanation of its significance.
                                                            Very, very wet.

Once back in Chania, we went to this restaurant for bougatsa, a traditional Cretan pie that can be sweet or savory. Two of us got the ham, cheese and tomato bougatsa, and we all got some made with mizithra, fresh cheese similar to our ricotta.
